Walking in public gained new meaning with the pandemic. An ancient and everyday ritual became an integral part of the new normality. People meet, walk, stroll through districts, play in landscapes, and perceive their environment anew with every stride.
The Walks is a collection of ten audio walks conceived by Rimini Protokoll which grasps walking as a theatrical scenario. For example, you can experience a walk in parks, a staged walk in supermarkets or interactions on watersides. In every city, voices, sounds, and music turn familiar places into sites and landscapes into stages, step by step through storytelling, dialogical situations, choreographed discoveries, or musical and rhythmic variations on walking. Each walk takes around 20 minutes, you decide when you start and how many walks you’d like to do. The Walks connects people around the world in a local experience via the fundamental human act of walking.
Helgard Haug, Stefan Kaegi and Daniel Wetzel founded the Berlin-based theatre label Rimini Protokoll in 2000 and have since developed their stage works, interventions, performative installations and audio plays together with experts who have gained their knowledge and skills beyond the theatre. Work by work they have expanded the means of the theatre to create new perspectives on reality. They have been awarded numerous prizes and are invited with their works all over the world.
The Walks is an app for smartphones that can be downloaded from the App Store or Google. The activation code for the app with the 10 walks can be requested free of charge via the link "Ticket order" on this page through the SZENE (one code per order and while stocks last) and used from June 9.
