SOMMERSZENE 2026 will open with the living classic Travelogue I – Twenty to eight, the iconic piece by the exceptional choreographer Sasha Waltz.
The evening centres on the kitchen, which becomes the stage for a wild, painful and absurd portrait of everyday life. The fridge, table and doors turn into playing partners as five characters are caught up in neurotic routines, silent yearnings and grotesque conflicts. With humour, aggression and sensuality Sasha Waltz & Guests depict a piece of contemporary life that has lost none of its explosive power since its world premiere in 1993.
Dance, theatre and the music by the Tristan Honsinger Quintet coalesce into an expressive, rhythmic snapshot of human coexistence in which loneliness and desire are overlaid with comic absurdity. A dance piece that looks at our relationships and shared lives with revealing humour and painful precision – it is timeless, radical, comic and full of raw beauty.
Sasha Waltz, who has significantly shaped contemporary dance for more than 30 years, understands her repertoire as a living archive that pulses and evolves anew with each new cast.
