Sommerszene

It is a great pleasure to be able to present the programme for SOMMERSZENE 2026. From 8 to 23 June fourteen productions spanning a broad artistic arc await you. The thematic perspectives, aesthetic languages and stylistic forms they present emphatically demonstrate the urgent sociopolitical relevance of choreography and performance.

Sasha Waltzʼs dance classic Travelogue I – Twenty to eight, depicting the universe of interpersonal relations with expressivity, rhythm and humour, has lost none of its topicality. Jan Martenʼs jumping performance THE DOG DAYS ARE OVER 2.0 has also long held cult status, fascinating audiences with its formal structure, extreme precision and physical endurance. Meanwhile French choreographer Leïla Ka is busy writing dance history and presents her furious debut Maldonne, an anthem to female power in Austria for the first time. Marco da Silva Ferreira also sends a strong political message: in F*cking Future he offers an impressive demonstration of the power of the collective body. In his multifaceted performance Tomorrow we dreamed of yesterday Michikazu Matsune is interested in fictional encounters. And for our finale we say Come Back Again with Doris Uhlich & Susanne Kirnbauerʼs highly acclaimed duet in which they challenge the biography of the individual body.

There are also some strong artistic signals from the Salzburg community: Rosana Ribeiro premieres Break the Dam, Ann Van den Broek restages We Solo Men for the BODHI Project, Cornelia Böhnisch and Katharina Schrott create powerful atmospheres in the Kollegienkirche with Rauschen and Applied Theatre invites us to BODIES, BORDERS, POROSITY. The programme is rounded off by guest performances: Alberto Cissello enchants audiences with POINT FIXE, Solène Weinachter conquers our hearts in AFTER ALL, Deva Schubert brings the Kunstverein to life in sound with missed tones and with INTO THE DIRT & SCHAUFENSTER #1 there are two participatory and chill installations by Dimitri de Perrot to discover in the Kurgarten.

We wish you inspiring days at the festival!
