The bar

FIRST BURGER

In the early 1950s, Salzburg became familiar with new forms of eateries - the Espresso Café, the Café-Bar, and the Grill-Buffet. One of the first of its kind was the Winkler-Espresso, later Café 21, located here in the former cinema Stadtkino cinema. Artists, cosmopolitans, Salzburg's jeunesse dorée, and the GI's of the US Army preferred to have fun here rather than in the traditional taverns with a regulars' table atmosphere.

The appetite of US soldiers for a taste of home brought typical American dishes to the city, including the hamburger, which was served for the first time in Salzburg at Café 21, now known as SZENE LOKAL. The owners at that time, the Jezek couple, had learned about American cuisine while they were exiles in New York during the Nazi era. So, it's a place with history, a house with tradition, which SZENE LOKAL continues as a Burger - Grill - Bar, offering contemporary (organic) burger variations and many moore delicious dishes and drinks.
