Evanescent is a large-format sound and light installation by the Australian artist duo Atelier Sisu that will transform the inner courtyard of the Residenz in Salzburg’s DomQuartier. This temporary artwork aims to conjure fleeting moments of beauty and to capture the concept of transience visually in the form of bubbles. The immersive, environmental artwork consists of spheres of colour-reflecting film that react to changing light conditions to produce rainbow-like reflections. The pavilion-like structures create brilliant shapes and invite you to view them from a range of angles.

The architect Zara Pasfield and the industrial designer and sculptor Renzo B. Larriviere took their inspiration for Evanescent from the Covid-19 pandemic, which made us aware that things we take for granted can vanish in a moment. This feeling of transient beauty is reflected in Evanescent’s fluid aesthetic, its gentle colours and delicate materials. The installation also delights with a playfulness that is universally understood: it seduces us into childlike wonder and encourages us to see the world around us as a precious space that is transient and fragile. In recent years Atelier Sisu has presented Evanescent in numerous cities and settings around the world, winning numerous prizes including the Platinum London Design Award.
