Out Of Order is the title of the latest piece by the legendary British performance company Forced Entertainment, which will be performed in Austria for the first time at the Sommerszene. On a bare stage under bright light a troupe of six hapless clowns do their unlevel best to get along and pass the time. Rehearsing old gags, getting tangled in new ones, forgetting that anything happened and then remembering and forgetting again. Carefully unbalanced between funny and not funny Out Of Order is the ruins of a show in the ruins of a world. Violence and posturing, high jinx and clown-on-clown comical capers give way to bickering, exhaustion, hunger, melancholy and silence. The clock ticks. The music swells to repeated climax. And everything comes to nothing.

For 35 years now Forced Entertainment, the company based in Sheffield, UK, has been writing history, representing a theatre that is unmistakeable, playful and highly thoughtful. Under the direction of Tim Etchells, the company, which has a core ensemble of six artists, has created works in the fields of theatre, performance, installation, digital media and film. Audiences around the world have been delighted by pieces such as Real Magic, which was invited to the 2017 Berlin Theatertreffen, Quizoola! and the durational performance And on the Thousandth Night. Now Forced Entertainment comes to Salzburg for the first time with Out Of Order.
